OBJECTIVES

What Will We Work On in 2016?

***We are currently planning our objectives for 2016, but here are some items we have worked on in the past few years.***

The Foundation helped launch the Friends of Pyramid Park which is working with Illinois Department of Natural Resources leaders to develop a master-plan for Pyramid State Park and to raise the funds for priority projects to improve the park.  Additional campsites, cabins and other amenities will bring additional hunters, fishermen, field trial enthusiasts, and others who love the outdoors to the Community.  Dr. Bill Roe, a Charter Member of the Foundation, is leading this effort.

An initiative is also underway to create a $100,000 fund for scholarships to major universities and to improve the guidance and college preparation program at Pinckneyville High School.  We have smart students in Pinckneyville, and our goal is to help them improve their ability to be successful by increasing their opportunities for a quality education.  One of the Foundation’s directors has made a $50,000 matching gift pledge to help the initiative get off to a good start, and a second Foundation director is working on the fundraising committee.  As this recently announced initiative is seeking funding, the Foundation will search for grants and other sources of funding to make this initiative a huge success.

The City Park and Fairgrounds is one of the Community’s irreplaceable assets.  Think of all the folks who have enjoyed it for over 125 years – the American Thresherman Association and their visitors, the Perry County Fair, soccer, softball and baseball leagues, swimmers, those who use the walking trails, civic organizations, and families.  The City Park has not received a major upgrade in decades, and it requires some careful attention to meet the diverse needs of the groups that use it.  The Foundation is working with the Mayor, other City officials, and a committee representing the users of the park to develop a master plan for the City Park.
